DESCRIPTION:Chatback at the Chapel!\n\n\nHelston Old Chapel\n\n\n7.30pm 11th October 2024\n\n\nSproutSpoken does Helston! \n​ \nA night of open-mic spoken word with guest feature from Chris White. \n\n\nBook now\n\n\n[please note that if you’re booking as an open-mic participant\, click here] \n​ \nAfter previous pop-ups in Bodmin\, Looe and Bude\, this time SproutSpoken lands in Helston with a night of poetry and spoken word that serves up a wholesome helping of the heartfelt together with a whopping wedge of the whimsical. \n\n\n\n\n\nSproutSpoken open-mic nights provide the perfect platform for wordsmiths of all shapes and sizes to get their work ‘up on their feet’  in the company of an audience. \n\nAlong the way\, Dicky brings his own brand of warm and welcoming hosting and – at this pop up – SproutSpoken favourite Chris White will be turning in a guest feature spot to top the night off. \n\n\n\n\n\nSign up to the open-mic and share your words:  whether it’s your first time or you’re a regular\, there are bags of support and encouragement. If you’re taking part\, entrance is free –  you just need to book an open-mic participant ticket here and include a few details about yourself when you checkout. \n\n\n\n\n\n“The evening ended on a hilarious note with its guest speaker\, Chris White. The astonishing poet transitioned between sadness and hilarity in each poem. One moment appearing a shy speaker who found himself in the wrong place\, the next a powerful commentator demanding the focus of the room. White continued to stand out as his own unique performer. Think of the self-deprecation of David Mitchell and the open expressiveness of Russell Howard\, and you’re halfway there.”~ Intermission Bristol \n\n\nChris is a multiple slam winning poet\, who regularly performs his silly\, surreal work at nights and festivals from Tongue Fu to WOMAD. He’s a theatre maker\, a former ‘Bard of Exeter’\, was the first ‘Riddler in Residence’ at Exeter Cathedral and has appeared numerous times with SproutSpoken. Chris is also the founder\, host and lead producer for spoken word organisation “Spork” based in Exeter. \n\n\nFlexible Ticket Prices for Performances\n\nWe understand things are challenging for many people. \n​ \nTo try and make the work that Trevow Helston programmes as accessible as possible we are offering three ticket prices for the show and a free ticket draw. Please book the ticket that reflects what you can afford right now. To enter the ticket draw please click here.  \n\n\nWhat do I need to know?\n​ \nDue to the expressive nature of spoken word as an artistic form\, it is likely that the evening will cover a wide variety of themes\, some of which may be triggering for some people. Furthermore\, because part of the evening entails an open-mic format\, it is impossible to warn audiences prior to them considering attendance. Please consider this as you make your booking and please feel free to get in touch if you would like to discuss further. \n​ \nRecommended age 16+. \n​ \nWe estimate a run time of approximately 75 minutes including an interval. \n​ \nThis event will take place at the Helston Old Cemetery Chapel\, Meneage Road\, Helston\, TR13 8BH. \n\nThere is a large pay and display car park opposite the Helston Medical Centre\, Trelawney Rd\, Helston TR13 8AU. This is a 5-10 minute walk away. It is possible to drop-off and pick-up immediately outside the chapel building. \n​ \nThere is level access from the tarmac path into the side door of the chapel. There is space inside the chapel for wheelchairs. The seating will be on pews. If we can support you at our event in other ways please contact us on guy@cousinjacks.org \n\nA small pop-up bar will be available at this event. Card payments only. \n​ \nDue to the nature of the production\, latecomers cannot be admitted. \n​ \nWe currently have limited facilities at our new venue. Please be aware that we will be using an accessible portaloo for this event. \n\nOur performances may be filmed or photographed and the material may be used by Trevow Helston\, its sister company Cousin Jack’s or the performance company at any time for evaluation\, promotion or other projects.
