SUMMARY:Exhibition: Haunted Cornwall
DESCRIPTION:Cornwall boasts a long folkloric tradition – From old tales of giants and fairies to accounts of elusive ghosts and Cornish knockers. Although quieted by the rise of Methodism\, these stories resurfaced during the Victorian Gothic revival\, and Cornwall once again emerged from the mist as a place of hauntings.  \nExploring these themes\, this exhibition takes a look at Cornwall\, its land and its people\, and asks the question…What makes Cornwall appear so haunted? \nChildren (and adults!) can also take part in one of our Haunted Cornwall activities\, include a word search and a ‘Spot the Ghost’ challenge. Additionally\, there will be a talk related to the exhibit – What Makes a Good Cornish Ghost Story – taking place at the museum on October 29 at 2pm.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Autumn Half term\, Saturday 26 October – Sunday 3 November\, and find out more about apple harvest through the years at Godolphin and discover more about apple folklore this October half term. Enjoy apple pressing in the Cider House\, get crafting\, do some apple collecting in the Orchard\, make muddy apple pies in the Mud-Pie kitchen\, and more! All activities are included in normal admission\, and there is no need to pre-book. Apple pressing is on from 11am-3pm on the following dates: Sunday 27 October Monday 28 October Thursday 31 October Friday 1 November. Please note: apple pressing is subject to volunteer availability. Please call ahead if you are visiting for this specific reason.

SUMMARY:Talk: What makes a good (Cornish) ghost story?
DESCRIPTION:In the run up to Halloween it seems a fitting time to think about telling ghost stories. We are thrilled that Marie Macneill\, screen writer\, senior lecturer at Falmouth University (Film and Television)\, and co-editor of the recent collection 13 Cornish Ghost Stories\, has written a Helston ghost story for us.  \nCome and listen to Marie read the story and then join in a discussion about what makes a good ghost story – in particular a good Cornish ghost story. In Cornwall\, we have the open moors with their swirling mists\, the abandoned spaces underground and the rugged cliffs that snares ships. What else do we need to make a really good ghost story? \nThe talk will run for approximately 30 minutes. No advance booking is required for this event; it’s a drop-in session
