Ann was a founder member of the Party for Cornwall – Mebyon Kernow. In 1997 Ann organised a huge march to London in the footsteps of the Cornish Rising (or Rebellion) of 1497. \nCome and see this superb selection of contemporary Cornish artefacts on display in the Link Gallery.

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Helston 365
DESCRIPTION:In 2015\, the Museum of Cornish Life launched the “Helston 365” project in which anybody could become a exhibiting photographer. One photo for each day of the year were submitted by members of the public\, collected together and put on display in an exhibition. Now ten years later\, a new exhibition allows for some reflection on what has arrived\, departed and remained in a changing world. \nThe project was the idea of Jude Carroll\, a volunteer at the museum. She said about the project: \n  \n“I set myself a challenge to collect a photograph of our local area for each day of the year in 2015\, in partnership with what was then known as Helston Folk Museum.  This led me to persuade\, cajole and nag until almost every date had somebody responsible to find a subject\, take a photo and write a short piece about it.      Ten years ago\, when our phones were less sophisticated\, most people used a camera and printed the images\, rather than supplying them in digital form.  In February 2016 they were exhibited in this room. I am delighted that the images and texts have been preserved and we can see where there have been changes in our community and landscape and what has remained pretty much as it was a decade ago.” \n  \nThe Helston 365 project spanned across every area of Helstonian culture and lifestyle\, from documenting performances by the Helston Theatre Company to the Porthleven nightlife. All manner of landmarks\, citizens and public events were immortalised. A slice of Cornwall frozen in time.

SUMMARY:SKY NEAL | CARA MAMMA
DESCRIPTION:Cara Mamma (24 mins) draws on a series of candid personal letters exchanged between Daniela and her adult child Naissa over a three-year period\, combining these with dream-like allegorical sequences and cinema verité. The film follows Naissa as he stands firmly for his independence and identity as a trans man\, and Daniela as she wrestles with her fear of losing a daughter. As Naissa embarks on his professional dance career and proudly embodies his gender\, his mother also embarks on a journey of understanding and acceptance of her son’s choices. \nI think trans youth in my position and parents in my mum’s position need to see themselves represented\, and need to see the conversations in such a raw but also loving way. All we ever hear from the media is someone coming out as trans and either their parents embracing them immediately or throwing them out. Relationships are so much more complex than that\, and the grey area from coming out to acceptance needs to be seen unapologetically. \nNaissa \nNaissa and Daniela approached documentary filmmaker Sky Neal to make this film as a way of sharing their experience. Sky\, the director of Satya Films\, grew up in Cornwall and currently lives in Porthleven. She will introduce the film and lead an informal Q&A after the screening. \nFilm still: Cara Mamma\, 2024\, image courtesy Sky Neal. \nThursday 3 April\nCAST Café supper from 6pm\nScreening and Q&A from 7pm\nTickets from £15\, booking essential – https://checkout.square.site/merchant/MLNDXB8E61SVC/checkout/CEVKBSOBLK7SHXDMOSUSLGIW
