DESCRIPTION:Commissioned and co-designed by Cornwall National Landscape team and crafted by renowned Cornish metal sculptors Thrussells\, Drolla\, which takes its name from the Cornish word for “folk tale” seamlessly blends intricate artistry with functional design. \nAccompanying Drolla at Penrose will be a photography exhibition displaying some fantastic shots of the winning photos from Cornwall National Landscape’s photography competition run during 2024 with the overarching theme of ‘Celebrating People and Place’ with participants asked to capture what makes Cornwall National Landscape special to them\, from flora and fauna\, to bees\, birds and diverse landscapes.

SUMMARY:WILLIAM KENTRIDGE | DRAWINGS IN MOTION
DESCRIPTION:This presentation of two short films\, made some twenty years apart\, offers a window into the creative processes of celebrated South African artist William Kentridge.  \nJourney to the Moon (2003) is a playful response to the 1902 Georges Méliès film Le Voyage dans la Lune. It follows Kentridge (and his coffee cup) from the studio into his own drawn world. His new film Fugitive Words (2024)\, which will have its first UK presentation at CAST\, unfolds entirely within the pages of one of Kentridge’s notebooks. DESCRIPTION:Paper making\, serpentine polishing\, woodworking\, clay\, tiny printing press\, large vegetable printing. \nLearn how to make your own plantable paper with seeds embedded\, create your own construction from wood\, or polish serpentine into a shiny pendant. You can also have a go on our tiny printing press or make an enormous vegetable print! \nDifferent activities are on offer at each CAST-Off session over the summer. Sessions will take place from 26 July to 23 August on Saturdays in the walled garden at National Trust Penrose – the what3words location for the walled garden is steepest.daydreams.boasted. There are also Lightbox sessions taking place at CAST on Tuesdays exploring techniques that underpin the processes of photography and moving image. \nAll the activities are free and offered on a drop-in basis\, no booking required. \nDonations to support this much-loved programme and enable it to keep running are always very welcome. \nParticipants of all ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. \nWe won’t be put off by a bit of drizzle and hope you won’t either\, but check our social media on the day in case of extreme weather or last-minute changes. \nParking: \nWe recommend parking at the free Fairground car park in Helston and making your way along the footpaths to the walled garden. This route is tarmac all the way\, so well suited to pushchairs\, scooters\, and bikes. Please be aware the route is 2.4km / 1.5 miles\, with an approximate walk time of 45 minutes. \nFor those who need to get a little closer by car\, there is a small National Trust car park\, approximately 1km / 0.6 miles from the Walled Garden along the official paths. \nBus: \nIt is a 10 minute bus journey from Helston to Penrose on the U4\, which runs hourly between Falmouth and Penzance.
