SUMMARY:Exhibition - Withy Lore
DESCRIPTION:Withy Lore explores the endangered craft of withy pot making\, celebrating its heritage and community of makers through story\, art and film. \nUntil the 1960’s and 1970’s willow crab/lobster pots\, known locally as withy pots\, were a common sight around the South West coastline. Crafted with great skill over the winter months and cast into the sea with the hope of a good catch\, these pots were a lifeline to fishermen and their families for generations. With the introduction of plastic pots\, withy pot making rapidly declined and today few pot makers remain. Pot styles/techniques vary from place to place\, person to person\, like a signature. In turn these signatures reveal stories about place and community. As pots generally lasted 1 season\, and most makers didn’t document their process\, many designs have already been lost. Withy pot making is now \,classified as ‘critically endangered’ on the Red List of Endangered Crafts\, meaning it is at serious risk of no longer being practised in the UK. There is therefore an urgency to document and support this fascinating craft and its heritage\, which is deeply connected to our relationship with the natural world.

SUMMARY:Exhibition - Nature Recovery in Cornwall
DESCRIPTION:On a single day in summer\, one acre of wildflower meadow can contain 3 million flowers\, producing 1kg of nectar sugar. That’s enough to support nearly 96\,000 honeybees per day. \n97% of species-rich grassland has been lost in the UK since the 1930s\, with the remaining 3% mostly fragmented across the country\, leaving little room for wildlife to spread. \nExplore how the National Trust and partners are tackling these issues\, through the Coastal Meadows project and the Lizard Rarities Project\, in this photography exhibition.

SUMMARY:Pamela Colman Smith: Resonances of Being Unfolding Archives as Spiritual Practice
DESCRIPTION:Cassinelli Mills presents: Pamela Colman Smith: Resonances of Being Unfolding Archives as Spiritual Practice A free-to-visit exhibition (no booking required) \nA collage of folklore\, cultural tradition and spiritualism\, the artists in this exhibition encourage us to mine the archives for encounters that both connect and expand our human experience. Unfolding the archives of Pamela Colman Smith is a challenge; a figure who moves between\, and transcends\, binaries and boundaries. \n \nColman Smith was an artist\, occultist\, writer\, publisher and performer\, but one who is primarily remembered for being the illustrator of the Rider-Waite Tarot deck. Colman Smith’s archive is vast and fragmented. Born in London\, she traveled extensively including North America and Jamaica and lived in Helston in the UK’s South West for around 30 years. She was buried in an unmarked grave in Bude\, Cornwall.
