We will start by taking measurements and amending the pattern where possible first. Then you will make a toile of the dress in calico to fit. SUMMARY:Nerikomi: Patchwork Coloured Clay | Afternoon Workshop
DESCRIPTION:A one-off session exploring using coloured clay to make patterns and playful surfaces within the clay body. Attendees will form simple shapes from a variety of coloured clays and use these to make slabs from which simple forms such as dishes and bowls will be made. We will make two geometric patterns and our final piece will be a chance to play with the methods learnt. \n\nAfter the workshop we will finish the works and then glaze pieces with our transparent glaze. \nEach attendee will make up to three pieces. \nFor 18 years and over. \nWhat to bring? All tools and materials will be provided. Wearing old clothes that can get mucky is advisable and please bring an apron. \nCollection: Ceramic work will be ready 6 weeks after the final workshop to allow time for pieces to be dried\, fired\, and glazed. Pots can be collected from the studio at CAST during Open Access Sessions on Monday and Thursday evenings 5:30pm – 8:30pm and Friday afternoons 1:30pm – 4:30pm. \nMinimum attendees 4.  If we do not reach this number we may need to cancel the class\, in which case you will be notified and refunded three weeks before the start date.

DESCRIPTION:A mini retreat morning in a wood fired barn\, featuring yoga\, TRE & rest.\nWe’ll start our morning with a nourishing cup of warm cacao drink when you arrive. We’ll then ease into some gentle yoga to stretch your body\, ground your energy and clear your mind. After a small pause\, we’ll begin a TRE practice. TRE (or tension and trauma release exercises) is a gentle and holistic way to begin to unwind held patterns in the body by introducing a very natural and calming tremor response in the body. More on TRE on my website and below. \nLike a snow globe\, after our exercises and shake to stir things up a little\, we will have a long and guided savasana to settle our energy before ending\, as always\, with tea\, some yummy treats and time to chit chat if you’d like to\, or stay snuggled up in a blanket and be quiet. If it’s cooler\, the log fire will be on and the floor will be heated. \nAbout TRE \nTRE is a set of exercises that are designed to engender a natural tremor in the body. We use the tremors therapeutically to release muscle tension\, calm the nervous system and to bring the body and mind back into balance. It’s a very safe\, natural process that all mammals have the ability to do. The practice is about teaching the body to remember how to do it. The main way we do this is by facilitating free-to-attend fortnightly informal talking group meetings held at locations all over the UK.\n\nWhat happens at Man Down Helston ??\nEvery two weeks on a Tuesday at 7pm we invite men to come along and talk about their mental health as part of a supportive talking group. By offering the chance to speak and listening to others\, together we break down the stigma associated with talking about our emotions. All attending agree to the sessions being a confidential\, non-judgemental and safe space to share. We also offer social meet ups and an online peer support group for those that have attended a face-to-face talking group meeting.

SUMMARY:Make a Dress Block
DESCRIPTION:The aim of the course is to come away with a well fitted dress block (a basic dress pattern with fitted bodice\, pencil skirt and fitted sleeve). Having your own block is so useful and essential for making new patterns at home. \nPlease note\, we will not be drafting the block from scratch\, we will be amending a block to fit you. We will start by taking measurements and amending the pattern where possible first. Then you will make a toile of the dress in calico to fit. You will have a couple of fittings\, as we refine the fit of the garment in stages. These fitting techniques can be applied to any dress/top pattern that you use in future!

DESCRIPTION:The aim of the class is to come away with a well fitted trouser block. Having your own block is so useful and essential for making new patterns at home. We will be drafting the block from scratch from your measurements\, so please wear leggings so that we can get accurate measurements before we start. After we have drafted the block and added seam allowance\, we will make up a quick toile in calico to check the fit\, before making any adjustments on the pattern. Please note you will not have a finished pair of trousers to take home\, you will have a calico toile and pattern block. From your block you can then make pattern design alterations\, such as adding pockets\, adding a waistband or waist facing\, seam lines etc at home.
