DESCRIPTION:Touring from Mousehole to St Mawes this September! The Killigrew’s are up to their usual devious ways in Falmouth and Queen Elizabeth is not at all happy. Sir Francis Godolphin is fighting the Spanish in Penzance and is not at all happy. Blissfully unaware and occasionally happy\, the Tudor players of Penryn are staging ‘Samson & Delilah.’ ‘Samson and Delilah’ is a fun\, historical drama set during the backdrop of the Spanish Armada. The tour travels along Cornish coastal communities – from Mousehole to Penryn – where the Cornish and Spanish finally meet. Two worlds are about to collide both on and off the stage! The tour plays at a variety of Cornish venues\, both indoor and outdoor\, giving greater relevance and meaning to our harbours\, villages\, castles\, beacons and abandoned ruins. We want to connect our communities along the Armada route! Samson & Delilah has received £47\,360 from Cornwall Council’s Community Levelling Up Programme\, part of the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund. The project has only been made possible thanks to this funding alongside funding from FEAST Cornwall and Carn to Cove. This means that Collective Arts has been able to keep ticket prices relatively low so that lots of people can come along and enjoy a good night out at the theatre. Recommended for audiences 8+

DESCRIPTION:Wild Spaces with Doug Allan\n\n\nHelston Old Cemetery Chapel\n\n\n7.30pm 3rd September 2024\n\n\n​ \n“Wildlife cameramen don’t come much more special than Doug Allan”~ Sir David Attenborough \n\n\nBook now\n\n\nThis event is being hosted in partnership with Helston Climate Action Group\, Wildlife Groundswell\, XR Helston and Plastic Free Helston. \n​ \nMulti-Emmy and BAFTA award-winning Blue Planet and Planet Earth cameraman\, Doug Allan will join us in Helston for an evening of behind-the-scenes stories and honest conversation about climate reality and optimism. From mountain summits to rocky shorelines\, through coral reefs and kelp forests\, from arid deserts to the frigid poles\, under the shifting sea ice of the frozen oceans Wild Spaces is a journey to inspire all who love wilderness. It’s a celebration of the breathtaking range of environments that Doug Allan has been privileged to film over his 40 years as a documentary cameraman and photographer.  \n\n\n\n\n\nDoug Allan diving in Chagos \n\n\nClimate change means familiar landscapes are disappearing across the world. Wild places are under threat – how should we be changing to protect them? \n​ \nIllustrated with his own photographs and clips from his best-known series\, and with a wealth of behind the scenes stories\, Doug’s presentation at the Helston Chapel will cover successes and setbacks during his own personal experiences exploring the challenges of climate change. \n​ \n“I’ve learned to balance climate reality with climate optimism and most importantly\, to realise that when everyone works together we can inspire a change of direction.” \n~ Doug Allan \n\n\n\n\n\nEmperor Penguins with chicks\, captured by Doug Allan \n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Doug Allan​\n\nDoug spent eight years in Antarctica as a research diver\, scientist and photographer for the British Antarctic Survey\, before changing direction to full-time filming in 1984. \n\nHe specialises in natural history\, expeditions and science documentaries in some of the wildest and most remote places on our planet\, particularly the polar zones. He has filmed for many series including The Blue Planet\, Planet Earth\, Life\, Human Planet\, Frozen Planet\, Forces of Nature\, Ocean Giants and Operation Iceberg\, as well as making programmes for the Living Oceans Foundation about coral reef conservation and overfishing. \n​ \nHis photographic awards include eight Emmy’s and five BAFTA’s. He has three Honorary Doctorates in recognition of his camerawork\, as well as two Polar Medals. He’s an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society and of the Royal Photographic Society. To enter the ticket draw please click here.  \n\n\nWhat do I need to know?\n​ \nThis event will take place at the Helston Old Cemetery Chapel\, Meneage Road\, Helston\, TR13 8BH. \n\nThere is a large pay and display car park opposite the Helston Medical Centre\, Trelawney Rd\, Helston TR13 8AU. This is a 5-10 minute walk away. It is possible to drop-off and pick-up immediately outside the chapel building. \n​ \nThere is level access from the tarmac path into the side door of the chapel. There is space inside the chapel for wheelchairs. The seating will be on pews. If we can support you at our event in other ways please contact us on guy@cousinjacks.org \n​ \nThis event will be structured as follows: 50 minute presentation\, 20 minute “in conversation with” + 20 minute Q&A with audience. \n​ \nThe event is suitable for all ages. \n\nA small pop-up bar will be available at this event. Cash and card payments will be accepted. \n​ \nDue to the nature of the production\, latecomers cannot be admitted. \n​ \nWe estimate a run time of approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. \n\nOur performances may be filmed or photographed and the material may be used by Trevow Helston\, its sister company Cousin Jack’s or the event company at any time for evaluation\, promotion or other projects.
