SUMMARY:Exhibition - Nature Recovery in Cornwall
DESCRIPTION:On a single day in summer\, one acre of wildflower meadow can contain 3 million flowers\, producing 1kg of nectar sugar. That’s enough to support nearly 96\,000 honeybees per day. \n97% of species-rich grassland has been lost in the UK since the 1930s\, with the remaining 3% mostly fragmented across the country\, leaving little room for wildlife to spread. \nExplore how the National Trust and partners are tackling these issues\, through the Coastal Meadows project and the Lizard Rarities Project\, in this photography exhibition.

SUMMARY:Screening - Manifesto
DESCRIPTION:Ane Hjort Guttu’s film Manifesto\, 2020\, (27 min) speculates on the aims and purposes of institutional art education. Newly migrated into a university and an open-plan campus building\, an art school feels cornered by a suffocating culture of surveillance and administration. Staff and students find ways to subvert control through secret operations. Drawing on her own experiences as an art teacher\, Ane Hjort Guttu explores what is lost when creativity is replaced by order and provides action plans for how to be the playful rebel. \nAne Hjort Guttu is a visual artist and filmmaker based in Oslo. She works across a range of media\, with a particular focus on text and moving images. Her practice explores the relationship between freedom and power\, how we navigate public space\, individual autonomy\, and the social\, economic\, and political conditions of art. \nFrom 13 to 20 March 2026 Ane Hjort Guttu will be leading the eighth Cornwall Workshop\, a weeklong intensive residential workshop for artists\, curators and writers based in Cornwall and the South West. The workshop is organised by CAST and hosted at Kestle Barton on the Lizard peninsula.

SUMMARY:Screening & Talk - The Arbor
DESCRIPTION:Artist Clio Barnard’s moving film about the late Bradford playwright Andrea Dunbar is an intriguing mix of interviews with Dunbar’s family and friends\, scenes from her plays\, and TV footage of Dunbar in the 1980s. \nAndrea Dunbar\, a tenacious young playwright whose work was described as ‘Thatcher’s Britain with its knickers down’\, grew up on the notorious Buttershaw Estate in Bradford. It was there that she wrote her three plays The Arbor\, Rita\, Sue and Bob Too and Shirley\, had her three children\, and died prematurely\, at the age of 29\, in 1990. Clio Barnard’s film The Arbor follows Dunbar’s oldest daughter Lorraine as she is introduced to her mother’s plays and letters. Barnard spent two years interviewing members of the Dunbar family and local residents before creating an audio screenplay that was lip-synched by actors. The result\, as Peter Bradshaw wrote in The Guardian\, is ‘a new kind of ‘verbatim cinema’ … a modernist\, compassionate biopic.’ \nThe Arbor will be introduced by Falmouth-based artist and writer Dr Neil Chapman\, who describes it as ‘a film with a subtle politics developed in an innovative way’. \n\nThe Arbor is part of The Artangel Collection\, an initiative to bring outstanding film and video works\, commissioned and produced by Artangel\, to galleries and museums across the UK.

SUMMARY:Dick Whittington
DESCRIPTION:Helston Theatre Company presents a whimsical retelling of the well-known tale ‘Dick Whittington’. This timeless story unfolds with a delightful blend of laughter\, romance and rats… \nThe story follows the journey of a young clueless country boy from Cornwall – Richard (Dick) Whittington – and his adventure from to fulfil his destiny and become Lord Mayor of London. \nBut will the wicked and dastardly King Rat along with his nephew\, Lester\, foil Dick’s ambition and finally conquer London? Will they turn London into a dirty\, rotten town that they and their fellow rats can rule once and for all? Or will Dick find confidence\, hope and bravery in the Bells of London who convince him to turn around and defeat King Rat as foretold in their prophecy? \nDick is helped along on his journey through the support of Alice Fitzwarren the local Alderman’s daughter and the most friendly and welcoming person in all of London. Alongside her father\, Idle Jane and chef Betty Bassett\, they welcome Dick – and his new found friend Mowzer the Cat – to their Sweet Shop. But with the sweet times behind them and the cruel and bitter attacks of King Rat and his Rat Army\, they must go on a journey to distant lands with the drunken Captain Hogwash and the motley crew of the ‘SS Dreckly’. Will they find the help they seek? Or will King Rat cause them to never see the promised lands of a rat-free London? \nJoin us for an unforgettable adventure of merriment and wonder as we celebrate the inspiring tale of courage and prophecy in ‘Dick Whittington’ this January.

SUMMARY:Soul Sundays VII
DESCRIPTION:A mini retreat morning in a wood fired barn\, featuring yoga\, TRE & rest.\nWe’ll start our morning with a nourishing cup of warm cacao drink when you arrive. We’ll then ease into some gentle yoga to stretch your body\, ground your energy and clear your mind. After a small pause\, we’ll begin a TRE practice. TRE (or tension and trauma release exercises) is a gentle and holistic way to begin to unwind held patterns in the body by introducing a very natural and calming tremor response in the body. More on TRE on my website and below. \nLike a snow globe\, after our exercises and shake to stir things up a little\, we will have a long and guided savasana to settle our energy before ending\, as always\, with tea\, some yummy treats and time to chit chat if you’d like to\, or stay snuggled up in a blanket and be quiet. If it’s cooler\, the log fire will be on and the floor will be heated. \nAbout TRE \nTRE is a set of exercises that are designed to engender a natural tremor in the body. We use the tremors therapeutically to release muscle tension\, calm the nervous system and to bring the body and mind back into balance. It’s a very safe\, natural process that all mammals have the ability to do. The practice is about teaching the body to remember how to do it. To see an impala doing TRE have a look at the video on my blog post about it.
