SUMMARY:Screening - Manifesto
DESCRIPTION:Ane Hjort Guttu’s film Manifesto\, 2020\, (27 min) speculates on the aims and purposes of institutional art education. Newly migrated into a university and an open-plan campus building\, an art school feels cornered by a suffocating culture of surveillance and administration. Staff and students find ways to subvert control through secret operations. Drawing on her own experiences as an art teacher\, Ane Hjort Guttu explores what is lost when creativity is replaced by order and provides action plans for how to be the playful rebel. \nAne Hjort Guttu is a visual artist and filmmaker based in Oslo. She works across a range of media\, with a particular focus on text and moving images. Her practice explores the relationship between freedom and power\, how we navigate public space\, individual autonomy\, and the social\, economic\, and political conditions of art. \nFrom 13 to 20 March 2026 Ane Hjort Guttu will be leading the eighth Cornwall Workshop\, a weeklong intensive residential workshop for artists\, curators and writers based in Cornwall and the South West. The workshop is organised by CAST and hosted at Kestle Barton on the Lizard peninsula.

SUMMARY:Secrets of the Hidden Realm
DESCRIPTION:by Squashbox \nTonight we will open the archives and release those secret files – whatever the consequences! \n‘Secrets of the Hidden Realm’ delves into the strange\, dark and beguiling world of Cornish folklore\, using a blend of storytelling\, comedy and ingenious puppetry. It combines a deep reverence for the history and mythology of Cornwall with absurd humour and a dash of Cosmic Horror. With influences including The X Files\, Twin Peaks\, H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos and The Magnus Archives\, ‘Secrets of the Hidden Realm’ is a surreal flight of fancy into a liminal world of magic and mystery. \n Cornwall is famous for its picturesque towns and beautiful beaches… but there is another Cornwall lurking below this sunny surface: the Cornwall of folklore and superstition\, of magic and myth\, of giants\, faeries\, mermaids\, demons\, ghosts and witches. This ‘Hidden Realm’ exists alongside our own\, in a parallel time and space\, invisible to mortals such as ourselves. But occasionally… at certain magical times and in certain enchanted places… the veil that separates our worlds can be breached… \nFor centuries\, a mysterious covert organisation has been investigating the Hidden Realm: monitoring strange and unnatural phenomena\, documenting evidence\, and recording witness statements – all from its top secret base in Camborne. \nBut the time for secrecy is over. The world needs to know the truth. Tonight we will open the archives and release those secret files – whatever the consequences!

DESCRIPTION:CAST’s Saturday art sessions for eleven- to sixteen-year-olds are structured around engagement with a wide range of artists\, many of whom have studios at or close links with CAST. \nLed by artist and learning specialist Kate Turner\, Saturday Art Club members meet in a studio at CAST each week to work with artists\, learn new skills\, develop a wide range of projects\, and explore their creativity. Due to growing demand for places the Saturday Art Club now has two groups\, one meeting in the mornings from 10.30am to 1pm to and the other meeting in the afternoons from 2pm to 4.30pm. \nAll sessions are free with materials provided. \nTo join the Saturday Club or find out more please contact kate@castcornwall.art. \nThe Saturday Art Club began in May 2021 with a pilot programme of six art sessions\, thanks to support from the Garcia Family Foundation. These initial sessions ran from May to July and proved so successful that a second pilot was run in September and October 2021. By November 2021\, funding from Arts Council England was secured to allow the program to continue through the summer of 2022. SUMMARY:Sam Glazebrook & Callum Kenworthy: A night of folk
DESCRIPTION:Get Folk’d Presents! Sam Glazebrook & Callum Kenworthy A night of folk \nWhat is Get Folk’d? \n“Grassroots Music is where it all begins” \nIn 2024 Seamus McKenna set up his own promotions company – “Get Folk’d!” in response to the decrease in opportunities for local grassroots artists to perform ticketed events – “There are too many incredible musicians out there who don’t have enough opportunities to play proper shows\, instead they find themselves stuck in the corner of a pub\, mostly ignored\, whilst the football plays in the background”. Get Folk’d was set up to counter this and provide artists the stage and audience they deserve. So far they have been a huge success collaborating with renowned grassroots venues such as The Cornish Bank\, The Fish Factory\, Shoals Brewery\, Carnglaze caverns and many more. Keep your eyes peeled for the next Get Folk’d Event! \nSam Glazebrook \nSamuel Glazebrook is a multi-instrumentalist singer songwriter / producer. When he’s not playing mandolin and percussion in Roo Panes’ band\, he writes and records music from his self built cabin in Cornwall\, UK. \nHis rhythmic style of acoustic guitar\, and introspective lyrics draw you in to listen closely with melodies that will stick in your head. \nIf you enjoy artists such as Jose Gonzales\, Fleet Foxes\, Feist and Adrianne Lenker you will love Samuels vibe. \nCallum Kenworthy \nCallum Kenworthy is an alt folk artist based in Falmouth\, Cornwall. Working quietly and mostly out of sight\, he makes guitar led music that values space\, feel and careful listening\, favouring atmosphere and restraint over unnecessary noise. \n“Callum Kenworthy’s new single\, “False Previews\,” is both intellectually stimulating and captivating. It gives us a look into modern society. The first note says that this music is meant to make you think as well as enjoy it. The lyrics are deep\, and the production is intentional and interesting.” \n— Kindline Magazine \n“After The Fire’ is a stunning release complete with passionate performances\, excellent musicianship and intelligent songwriting. Enjoy today!” \n— FVMusicBlog

SUMMARY:Artist in Residence - Vicki Aimers
DESCRIPTION:The Mending Rehearsal: Margaret Lanyon – The Wendron Years\n\n\nVicki Aimers is a book artist\, and PhD researcher with Falmouth University. Her practice-based research explores the lives of young Cornish sampler makers and the teachers who taught them needlework\, through archival research\, narrative stitch\, artist books\, creative writing\, and community workshops. Through making and participation\, her work considers how textiles can hold traces of education\, memory\, care\, labour\, and lived experience\, offering insight into the often-overlooked histories of girls and women in Cornwall. \nDuring her residency at the Museum of Cornish Life\, Vicki will be creating new work in response to the museum’s sampler collection\, which spans from the mid eighteenth to the early twentieth century. Alongside this\, she will be researching the lives and stories connected to these historic textiles\, sharing the experiences of the pupils and teachers whose work survives within the county’s collections. \nA particular focus of her current project is a darning sampler sewn in 1879 by Margaret Lanyon (1861-1939)\, held in the collection of Cornwall Museum & Art Gallery. Through archival research\, Vicki has been tracing Margaret’s life from her early years in Gweek\, where her family worked within the maritime industry\, to her later life in the farming community of Wendron\, where she married the celebrated Cornish wrestler John “Jack” Pearce. These fragments of everyday life and labour\, form an important starting point for the residency and wider study.
