SUMMARY:Make a Dress Block
DESCRIPTION:The aim of the course is to come away with a well fitted dress block (a basic dress pattern with fitted bodice\, pencil skirt and fitted sleeve). Having your own block is so useful and essential for making new patterns at home. \nPlease note\, we will not be drafting the block from scratch\, we will be amending a block to fit you. We will start by taking measurements and amending the pattern where possible first. Then you will make a toile of the dress in calico to fit. You will have a couple of fittings\, as we refine the fit of the garment in stages. These fitting techniques can be applied to any dress/top pattern that you use in future!

SUMMARY:Make a Trouser Block
DESCRIPTION:The aim of the class is to come away with a well fitted trouser block. Having your own block is so useful and essential for making new patterns at home. We will be drafting the block from scratch from your measurements\, so please wear leggings so that we can get accurate measurements before we start. After we have drafted the block and added seam allowance\, we will make up a quick toile in calico to check the fit\, before making any adjustments on the pattern. Please note you will not have a finished pair of trousers to take home\, you will have a calico toile and pattern block. From your block you can then make pattern design alterations\, such as adding pockets\, adding a waistband or waist facing\, seam lines etc at home.

SUMMARY:The Crucible
DESCRIPTION:Join Helston Theatre Company for their retelling of Arthur Miller’s iconic play.\nConsumed by paranoia\, superstition and a ruthless sense of justice\, a climate of fear and mass hysteria sweeps through the town of Salem\, Massachusetts when rumors grow that a group of girls are practicing witchcraft. What lies are the townspeople prepared to tell themselves in order to survive? \nWritten by award-winning American playwright Arthur Miller\, this seminal political history play about Salem in 1692 (and McCarthy’s 1950s America) is a timeless warning to us all. It’s a visceral\, gripping adventure into a desperate\, dangerous world where everyone is implicated\, and nobody is safe! \nThis intense drama promises to be a theatrical highlight of 2026\, showcasing the dramatic talents of our company in one of the greatest plays of the 20th century.

SUMMARY:Maeve Brennan | Artist's Talk
DESCRIPTION:This talk will follow a screening of Maeve Brennan’s film An Excavation (2022)\, which investigates a series of ancient artefacts recovered from Geneva Freeport in 2014. These artefacts were looted from the territory featured in Siticulosa\, the film showing at CAST from 3 April to 30 May. \nBoth films are part of Brennan’s ongoing project The Goods\, a multi-disciplinary body of work that focuses on the global trade in illicit antiquities. An Excavation documents the work of forensic archaeologists Dr Christos Tsirogiannis and Dr Vinnie Norskov (Director of Aarhus Museum of Ancient Art) as they meticulously piece together the recovered archaeological fragments to reconstruct a series of vases made in the fourth century BC by artisans in Apulia. \nMaeve Brennan uses moving image\, installation\, sculpture and printed matter to explore the social\, historical and political resonance of material and place. Her works excavate layered histories\, revealing unseen structures that shape contemporary life. Her work Siticulosa (2025) is on show at CAST from 3 April to 30 May. \nThursday 23 April 2026\nTickets from £18.50\, including CAST Café supper from 6pm \nBooking essential

SUMMARY:Screening - Manifesto
DESCRIPTION:Ane Hjort Guttu’s film Manifesto\, 2020\, (27 min) speculates on the aims and purposes of institutional art education. Newly migrated into a university and an open-plan campus building\, an art school feels cornered by a suffocating culture of surveillance and administration. Staff and students find ways to subvert control through secret operations. Drawing on her own experiences as an art teacher\, Ane Hjort Guttu explores what is lost when creativity is replaced by order and provides action plans for how to be the playful rebel. \nAne Hjort Guttu is a visual artist and filmmaker based in Oslo. She works across a range of media\, with a particular focus on text and moving images. Her practice explores the relationship between freedom and power\, how we navigate public space\, individual autonomy\, and the social\, economic\, and political conditions of art. \nFrom 13 to 20 March 2026 Ane Hjort Guttu will be leading the eighth Cornwall Workshop\, a weeklong intensive residential workshop for artists\, curators and writers based in Cornwall and the South West. The workshop is organised by CAST and hosted at Kestle Barton on the Lizard peninsula.

SUMMARY:Kernewek Keskesow Cabaret
DESCRIPTION:by Scary Little Girls & Greenham Women Everywhere \nIn September 1981\, a group of women marched from Cardiff to RAF Greenham Common to protest the siting of American cruise missiles on British soil. What began as a ten-day walk became a 19-year occupation that changed the face of peaceful protest forever. Women from across Britain—including many from Cornwall—left their homes\, their jobs\, sometimes their families\, to live in benders and tents through every weather\, facing arrest\, eviction and hostility\, united by the belief that they could change the world. And they did. \nNow\, Scary Little Girls and Greenham Women Everywhere CIC invite you to an evening celebrating the extraordinary contribution Cornish women made to this iconic movement. \nJoin us for a cabaret night filled with songs and stories from Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp. Through verbatim theatre and music\, performers including Rebecca Mordan (Artistic Director of Scary Little Girls and co-founder of the Greenham Women Everywhere archive project) alongside Cornish bards Bec Applebee and Fiona O’Cleirigh will share the tales of the peace women—in both Cornish and English—creating an evening of rousing performances that honours their courage\, creativity and defiance.
