DESCRIPTION:Artist Alison Turnbull uses found sources such as architectural plans\, scientific diagrams and star charts as the basis for creating abstract work. This workshop will follow the same material processes Turnbull uses in her own paintings and drawings\, with a focus on templates\, stencils\, tracing paper\, rulers and different geometric drafting tools. \nDrawing is central to Turnbull’s practice – often creating tension between what is found and what is drawn\, between the mass-produced and the handmade. Her latest exhibition\, Family Resemblance\, has just opened at Matt’s Gallery in London\, and runs until 9 November.

DESCRIPTION:What is Man Down ??\nWe are here to help reduce the number of male suicides and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health by offering men the space to talk about their emotions. The main way we do this is by facilitating free-to-attend fortnightly informal talking group meetings held at locations all over the UK.\n\nWhat happens at Man Down Helston ??\nEvery two weeks on a Tuesday at 7pm we invite men to come along and talk about their mental health as part of a supportive talking group. By offering the chance to speak and listening to others\, together we break down the stigma associated with talking about our emotions. All attending agree to the sessions being a confidential\, non-judgemental and safe space to share. We also offer social meet ups and an online peer support group for those that have attended a face-to-face talking group meeting.

DESCRIPTION:Under the guidance of Finn Leaman\, this course runs once a week for two and half hours over a 7 week period with no class between week 5 and 6 to allow for the bisque firing of work ready to be glazed on the final session. Learn\, refresh and refine your throwing skills; you will explore how to make a variety of forms using a range of techniques and processes. \nThis course is for people who have had some previous experience on a wheel or none at all. \nEach attendee will have up to 5 pots fired. \nWhat to bring? All tools and materials will be provided. Wearing old clothes that can get mucky is advisable. Please bring your own apron and towel to each session. \nCollection: Ceramic work will be ready 4 weeks after the final workshop to allow time for pieces to be fired. Pots can be collected from the studio at CAST during Open Access Sessions on Monday and Thursday evenings 5:30pm – 8:30pm and Friday afternoons 1:30pm – 4:30pm. \n£240 includes tuition\, equipment\, materials and firing of 5 pieces.
