DESCRIPTION:Ever watched a Flash Mob and thought I want in?\nThis is your chance\, with our one day taster session!\n10am – 2pm Wednesday 27 May\nBook Here  \nHN Dance Collective’s Flash Mob Frenzy!  A one-day taster session for those thinking about joining the crew or just want to dance for a day! \nEver watched a flash mob and thought I wish that was me? Now it can be. \nJoin Hannah and Amara from HN Dance Collective for a high-energy session of street dance\, choreography\, and serious fun — learning exactly what it takes to pull off a flash mob. From your first move to your final performance\, you’ll be drilled\, rehearsed\, and ready to own it. \nBy the end of the session\, you’ll perform your routine in front of family and friends — and if the buzz is real\, you could be taking it further. This summer\, HN Dance Collective is planning to pop up and surprise unsuspecting crowds at Coronation Park events. This could be your in. \nWhat’s the day about? Learn flash mob choreography from scratch\, develop your street dance skills\, perform in front of an audience\, and decide whether you want to be part of something that could genuinely turn heads this summer. \nFor parents: Drop them off\, come back for the finale\, and prepare to be surprised. This could be the start of something exciting for young people — and for Helston. \nCould this be the beginning of something new? There’s only one way to find out.

SUMMARY:Make a Dress Block
DESCRIPTION:The aim of the course is to come away with a well fitted dress block (a basic dress pattern with fitted bodice\, pencil skirt and fitted sleeve). Having your own block is so useful and essential for making new patterns at home. \nPlease note\, we will not be drafting the block from scratch\, we will be amending a block to fit you. We will start by taking measurements and amending the pattern where possible first. Then you will make a toile of the dress in calico to fit. You will have a couple of fittings\, as we refine the fit of the garment in stages. These fitting techniques can be applied to any dress/top pattern that you use in future!

SUMMARY:Man Down Helston
DESCRIPTION:What is Man Down ??\nWe are here to help reduce the number of male suicides and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health by offering men the space to talk about their emotions. The main way we do this is by facilitating free-to-attend fortnightly informal talking group meetings held at locations all over the UK.\n\nWhat happens at Man Down Helston ??\nEvery two weeks on a Tuesday at 7pm we invite men to come along and talk about their mental health as part of a supportive talking group. By offering the chance to speak and listening to others\, together we break down the stigma associated with talking about our emotions. All attending agree to the sessions being a confidential\, non-judgemental and safe space to share. We also offer social meet ups and an online peer support group for those that have attended a face-to-face talking group meeting.

SUMMARY:Mapping the Closet with SCAMP
DESCRIPTION:About the event\n\n\n\nMapping the Closet with SCAMP \nA Story Lab event by The Writers’ Block \n6-8pm on 26th May \nThis event takes place at: Trevow Chapel \nTickets £5 \nWhat does it mean to play with identity to invent an alter ego or to enter a space in the shoes you’ve always longed to wear? \nHow do ideas like gender\, presentation\, or profession shape who we believe ourselves to be? And what happens when we begin to question\, stretch\, or reimagine those roles? \nJoin us at Trevow Chapel for this workshop led by drag artist Scamp\, inspired by what3words\, where we’ll explore identity as something living\, shifting\, and creative. Just as three simple words can locate a precise place in the world\, we’ll use language\, movement\, and imagination to map new dimensions of ourselves. \nThrough embodied exercises\, guided writing prompts\, and the wisdom of your own lived experience\, you’ll experiment with new ways of expressing yourself and relating to others. Bring the clothes you’ve always longed to wear\, that bold piece tucked away at the back of your closet\, the outfit that never quite found its moment. This is its moment. \nScamp is a designer/drag artist and puppet maker and shaker\, with a focus on site-specific\, queer and accessibility-led work. They are co-founder of Blooom Cornwall and Falmouth Queer club and host/run nights regularly with Kernow Drag Collective.

SUMMARY:Screening - Manifesto
DESCRIPTION:Ane Hjort Guttu’s film Manifesto\, 2020\, (27 min) speculates on the aims and purposes of institutional art education. Newly migrated into a university and an open-plan campus building\, an art school feels cornered by a suffocating culture of surveillance and administration. Staff and students find ways to subvert control through secret operations. Drawing on her own experiences as an art teacher\, Ane Hjort Guttu explores what is lost when creativity is replaced by order and provides action plans for how to be the playful rebel. \nAne Hjort Guttu is a visual artist and filmmaker based in Oslo. She works across a range of media\, with a particular focus on text and moving images. Her practice explores the relationship between freedom and power\, how we navigate public space\, individual autonomy\, and the social\, economic\, and political conditions of art. \nFrom 13 to 20 March 2026 Ane Hjort Guttu will be leading the eighth Cornwall Workshop\, a weeklong intensive residential workshop for artists\, curators and writers based in Cornwall and the South West. The workshop is organised by CAST and hosted at Kestle Barton on the Lizard peninsula.
