SUMMARY:Golden October at CAST
DESCRIPTION:CAST’s ‘Golden October’ weekend will celebrate the renewal of CAST’s roofs\, with ‘Open Studios’ and a wealth creative activity to join in with. The entire CAST building\, including CAST Café and Clay Trap\, will be open for the Golden October weekend. There will be free printmaking and pottery activities\, free family drop-in workshops\, and some quieter\, more in-depth sessions available to book onto for a fee. We’re also planning a selection of guided walks exploring Helston and the local area. Look out for full listings and booking details in our October newsletter. Our ‘Golden October’ weekend will celebrate completion of the project to renew CAST’s roofs – including fitting solar panels\, adding insulation\, renovating and redecorating the fine Venetian Gothic windows\, and replacing roof lights – an undertaking that will make the building more resilient and extend its life for many years to come. This significant programme of work\, along with many of CAST’s learning activities during 2023 and 2024\, has been made possible by funding by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Some renovations will continue through the winter months\, but\, at this important milestone\, we want to invite the whole community to celebrate and enjoy the fruits of the investment in this special heritage building – a place for art\, culture and learning that is open to all. Saturday 26 October 2024 – Sunday 27 October 2024 10am to 4pm Free admission All Welcome

SUMMARY:Talk: What makes a good (Cornish) ghost story?
DESCRIPTION:In the run up to Halloween it seems a fitting time to think about telling ghost stories. We are thrilled that Marie Macneill\, screen writer\, senior lecturer at Falmouth University (Film and Television)\, and co-editor of the recent collection 13 Cornish Ghost Stories\, has written a Helston ghost story for us. \nCome and listen to Marie read the story and then join in a discussion about what makes a good ghost story – in particular a good Cornish ghost story. In Cornwall\, we have the open moors with their swirling mists\, the abandoned spaces underground and the rugged cliffs that snares ships. What else do we need to make a really good ghost story? \nThe talk will run for approximately 30 minutes. No advance booking is required for this event; it’s a drop-in session
