SUMMARY:Berry Basket Making
DESCRIPTION:Berry Basket Making – Vanessa Miller\nCost: £40 per person – Pre-booking is essential\nVanessa has been weaving baskets since 2016\, when shortly after moving to Cornwall she found willow growing in her garden. She is passionate about traditional techniques\, growing and weaving plant materials into functional and artistic pieces. As a retired paramedic in the London Ambulance Service\, she has swapped busy city life for the calm and relaxing craft of willow weaving. Though\, she acknowledges that while it is relaxing\, it can still be tough to master new techniques. She runs private workshops for all levels of experience and says that one of the things she enjoys most is passing on knowledge of this ancient craft. \nShe belongs to the Basket Markers Southwest\, Heritage Crafts and The Basketmakers Assocation. \nPlaces are limited so to take part in this fabulous workshop please book direct by emailing vanessajmillar@yahoo.co.uk \nAge range 18+ \nPlease note lunch is not provided. \nThis workshop is part of Helston Makes It! a week-long annual celebration of makers and craft. SUMMARY:Pamela Colman Smith: Resonances of Being Unfolding Archives as Spiritual Practice
DESCRIPTION:Cassinelli Mills presents: Pamela Colman Smith: Resonances of Being Unfolding Archives as Spiritual Practice A free-to-visit exhibition (no booking required) \nA collage of folklore\, cultural tradition and spiritualism\, the artists in this exhibition encourage us to mine the archives for encounters that both connect and expand our human experience. Unfolding the archives of Pamela Colman Smith is a challenge; a figure who moves between\, and transcends\, binaries and boundaries. \n \nColman Smith was an artist\, occultist\, writer\, publisher and performer\, but one who is primarily remembered for being the illustrator of the Rider-Waite Tarot deck. Colman Smith’s archive is vast and fragmented. Born in London\, she traveled extensively including North America and Jamaica and lived in Helston in the UK’s South West for around 30 years. She was buried in an unmarked grave in Bude\, Cornwall.

SUMMARY:Man Down Helston
DESCRIPTION:What is Man Down ??\nWe are here to help reduce the number of male suicides and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health by offering men the space to talk about their emotions. The main way we do this is by facilitating free-to-attend fortnightly informal talking group meetings held at locations all over the UK.\n\nWhat happens at Man Down Helston ??\nEvery two weeks on a Tuesday at 7pm we invite men to come along and talk about their mental health as part of a supportive talking group. By offering the chance to speak and listening to others\, together we break down the stigma associated with talking about our emotions. All attending agree to the sessions being a confidential\, non-judgemental and safe space to share. We also offer social meet ups and an online peer support group for those that have attended a face-to-face talking group meeting.
