DESCRIPTION:On a single day in summer\, one acre of wildflower meadow can contain 3 million flowers\, producing 1kg of nectar sugar. That’s enough to support nearly 96\,000 honeybees per day. \n97% of species-rich grassland has been lost in the UK since the 1930s\, with the remaining 3% mostly fragmented across the country\, leaving little room for wildlife to spread. \nExplore how the National Trust and partners are tackling these issues\, through the Coastal Meadows project and the Lizard Rarities Project\, in this photography exhibition.

DESCRIPTION:Ane Hjort Guttu’s film Manifesto\, 2020\, (27 min) speculates on the aims and purposes of institutional art education. Newly migrated into a university and an open-plan campus building\, an art school feels cornered by a suffocating culture of surveillance and administration. Staff and students find ways to subvert control through secret operations. Drawing on her own experiences as an art teacher\, Ane Hjort Guttu explores what is lost when creativity is replaced by order and provides action plans for how to be the playful rebel. \nAne Hjort Guttu is a visual artist and filmmaker based in Oslo. She works across a range of media\, with a particular focus on text and moving images. Her practice explores the relationship between freedom and power\, how we navigate public space\, individual autonomy\, and the social\, economic\, and political conditions of art. \nFrom 13 to 20 March 2026 Ane Hjort Guttu will be leading the eighth Cornwall Workshop\, a weeklong intensive residential workshop for artists\, curators and writers based in Cornwall and the South West. The workshop is organised by CAST and hosted at Kestle Barton on the Lizard peninsula.

But have you ever played in an actual band?\nThis is your chance to meet other young musicians\, form a band\, learn a song together\, and perform it live—all in just three days. \nWhat Happens Over the 3 Days? \n DAY 1: Meet Your Band (Tuesday) \nFIRST: Get to know everyone through icebreakers and a casual jam session. We’ll figure out who plays what and at what level\, then split into bands\, duos\, or trios based on your skills and musical tastes. \nTHEN: Your band chooses a song YOU want to learn (within your genre—rock\, pop\, indie\, whatever your groove is). Start working on it together and getting the basics down. \nThis is where the magic starts—strangers become bandmates. \n DAY 2: Make It Sound Good (Wednesday) \nPRACTICE\, practice\, practice. Get your song tight and performance-ready with guidance and support throughout the day. DESCRIPTION:What is Man Down ??\nWe are here to help reduce the number of male suicides and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health by offering men the space to talk about their emotions. The main way we do this is by facilitating free-to-attend fortnightly informal talking group meetings held at locations all over the UK.\n\nWhat happens at Man Down Helston ??\nEvery two weeks on a Tuesday at 7pm we invite men to come along and talk about their mental health as part of a supportive talking group. By offering the chance to speak and listening to others\, together we break down the stigma associated with talking about our emotions. All attending agree to the sessions being a confidential\, non-judgemental and safe space to share. We also offer social meet ups and an online peer support group for those that have attended a face-to-face talking group meeting.

DESCRIPTION:Ane Hjort Guttu’s film Manifesto\, 2020\, (27 min) speculates on the aims and purposes of institutional art education. Newly migrated into a university and an open-plan campus building\, an art school feels cornered by a suffocating culture of surveillance and administration. Staff and students find ways to subvert control through secret operations. Drawing on her own experiences as an art teacher\, Ane Hjort Guttu explores what is lost when creativity is replaced by order and provides action plans for how to be the playful rebel. \nAne Hjort Guttu is a visual artist and filmmaker based in Oslo. She works across a range of media\, with a particular focus on text and moving images. Her practice explores the relationship between freedom and power\, how we navigate public space\, individual autonomy\, and the social\, economic\, and political conditions of art. \nFrom 13 to 20 March 2026 Ane Hjort Guttu will be leading the eighth Cornwall Workshop\, a weeklong intensive residential workshop for artists\, curators and writers based in Cornwall and the South West. The workshop is organised by CAST and hosted at Kestle Barton on the Lizard peninsula.

DESCRIPTION:Create your own animated story inspired by Cornish myths and legends. \n\n\nThis hands-on 90-min family workshop introduces you to stop-motion animation inspired by Cornwall’s folklore. Working with ready-made\, cut-out puppets\, participants will concentrate on animation techniques\, sequencing and sound\, finishing the session with a completed mini film. All materials will be supplied. \nLed by celebrated professional animator Sarah Beeby \nFun\, creative\, confidence-building – and you don’t need any experience at all! \nBook your free ticket: \n10.30am – 12 noon \nor \n1-2.30pm \nAge Range 7-13yrs. \nAll children must be accompanied by an adult\, max 3 children per accompanying adult. Tickets are available on a first come first served basis. \nWorkshops are being held in the Guildhall next to the Museum of Cornish Life. \nThese workshops are part of Mini Animate Helston\, funded by the Film Audience Network\, part of Cornwall Film Festival\, designed to make animation accessible to all and inspire the next generation of creative talent. \nAnimate Helston is a partnership project between the Museum of Cornish Life and MorMedia.
