SUMMARY:Exhibition - All Our Bursting Treasure
DESCRIPTION:About the event\n\n\n\nAll Our Bursting Treasure A free-to-visit exhibition (no booking required) by Melanie Young \nOpen to the general public: 10am – 3pm on Saturday 15th\, Sunday 16th\, Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th and from 4-7pm on Thursday 20th. \nThrough painting\, installation\, and reclaimed domestic objects\, I trace the lingering imprints of what came before. My work explores motherhood\, inheritance\, and the enduring influence of female institutions\, asking how personal and collective memory intersect in the present. \nI’m drawn to the tension between what is revealed and what remains concealed—how memory flickers between presence and absence\, and how inherited structures shape our sense of self. The immediacy of paint and the physicality of installation serve as tools to engage with the emotional weight of family history\, particularly as it is carried by women.

SUMMARY:Sad Ballads & Crazy Salads
DESCRIPTION:About the event\n\n\n\nSad Ballads & Crazy Salads with Elaine Claxton & Rick Williams \nA night of miserable music and (not so) wise words with Rick and Elaine… Rick and Elaine think they met about 18 years ago and since then\, along with Rick’s brother Grev\, they have become friends and have sung together at various traditional music sessions in West Penwith and Bodmin folk club. It’s something of a standing joke that the songs are largely about drownings\, murder\, unrequited love\, grinding poverty and other such cheerful subjects. \n \nSo when Rick and Elaine decided to put together and evening of music and readings\, “Sad Ballads” came to mind. The “Crazy Salads” part of the title is a quote from a poem by Yeats\, commenting on the odd choices some “fine women” make. So the show will be a mixture of mainly sad songs\, and very varied selction of readings by or about women who have made choices out of the ordinary. Some wiser than others.

SUMMARY:Pamela Colman Smith: Resonances of Being Unfolding Archives as Spiritual Practice
DESCRIPTION:Cassinelli Mills presents: Pamela Colman Smith: Resonances of Being Unfolding Archives as Spiritual Practice A free-to-visit exhibition (no booking required) \nA collage of folklore\, cultural tradition and spiritualism\, the artists in this exhibition encourage us to mine the archives for encounters that both connect and expand our human experience. Colman Smith’s archive is vast and fragmented. Born in London\, she traveled extensively including North America and Jamaica and lived in Helston in the UK’s South West for around 30 years. SUMMARY://WET LAND//WET WORDS//WET WORK//
DESCRIPTION:A free workshop for the LGBTQIA+ community led by artist\, Indigo Wills “Cornwall is a landscape comprised of damp. Noticeably soaked and salt washed. The wetness is boundless. The wet land is queer.” ~ Workshop facilitator\, Indigo Wills Through writing and zine making\, we will unearth our own relationships to the wetness of the local landscape. This exploration of wetness will become a way to explore our community’s resistance to the inherent heteronormativity of the dry. Writing will be treated as an experimental\, judgment free and inclusive tool. \n \nAfter the workshop the zines will be collated into a ‘mother’ zine where all our shared writings will exist as a collective form of self-publishing. Creating a pocket-sized reminder for the local queer community that rural spaces are wet\, queer and where we belong. \n \nContent warning: There will be discussions about enforced heteronormativity which may include discussions around inherent societal queerphobia\, transphobia\, homophobia\, ableism. \n \nThis event is supporting our ambition to become a safer space for the LGBTQIA+ community 🏳️‍🌈 \n \nAt Trevow Helston\, we’re developing an evolving Actively Safe Space Manifesto for our venue that we hope will serve as a blueprint for other venues locally and nationally. This workshop will help us understand what our manifesto needs to include to work towards creating a safer space for the LGBTQIA+ community. \n \nThis event is made possible through the Cornwall Community Foundation and People In Mind Fund.

SUMMARY:Clay Monster: Queer Ta(i/e)ls (tails/tales)
DESCRIPTION:A free workshop for the LGBTQIA+ community led by artist\, Frankie Fisk “Play* ( *engage in activity for enjoyment rather than practical purpose ). Because our world needs\, softer\, wilder futures. Because monsters have birthdays too.” ~ Workshop facilitator Frankie Fisk Clay Monster: Queer Ta(i/e)ls (tails/tales) is a playful\, hands-in-the- ‘mud’ workshop where we’ll each sculpt a clay ‘monster’ and co-create a queer narrative. Blending clay play with child like storytelling methods\, the session invites collective myth-making\, and the imagining of otherwise worlds. We’ll draw on monster theory and queer ways of imagining to celebrate difference\, mess\, and things that don’t quite fit. \n \nOur monsters will then come together in the middle of our circle and be read the story we have written. \n \nAfter the workshop\, your monsters will be fired and glazed — ready to take home as tender companions. \n \nNo experience needed — just a willingness to play and explore the speculative magic of ta(i/e)l-making \n \nThis event is supporting our ambition to become a safer space for the LGBTQIA+ community 🏳️‍🌈 \n \nAt Trevow Helston\, we’re developing an evolving Actively Safe Space Manifesto for our venue that we hope will serve as a blueprint for other venues locally and nationally. SUMMARY:Whirligig of Time
DESCRIPTION:“Richard Curnow weaves a confident spell\, drawing the sell-out audience into their lives with a skilful luxuriation in the narrative. Malvolio’s determination to be ‘revenged on the whole pack’ that made his life a misery is a classy vignette which delivers humour\, pathos and a wealth of the linguistic winks.” Richard is back at the chapel with another of his much-loved takes on a Shakespearian character; this time Malvolio from Twelfth Night. Three months after Malvolio vowed to be revenged on the whole pack of them\, he relates\, with a great deal of satisfaction\, how he has kept his word. Malvolio knows\, better than most how he who laughs last\, laughs longest. To Hell with Anger Management! In February 2021 Whirligig of Time received an OnComm Nomination for a Live Screening award: \n“A Dish Best Served Cold. Richard’s clever and witty script…

SUMMARY:FITKINWALL
DESCRIPTION:Helston Old Chapel\n\n7.30pm 17th July 2025\n\nRuth Wall & Graham Fitkin\n\n“A haunting blend of Gaelic melodies and timeless electronica soundscapes that get right inside your head\, and your heart.”~ Mark Kermode on FitkinWall UIST/Harpland show
Internationally renowned harp and electronica duo FitkinWall follow threads of migration\, loss and longing in their new show. Ruth Wall’s explorations into Gaelic song\, fiddle and pipe tunes and the history of the Scottish Highlands where she grew up have a particular focus on migration and the Highland Clearances. Graham Fitkin has created enigmatic and mesmerising new versions of these tunes for Ruth’s three harps – the sitar-like Renaissance bray harp\, the beautiful medieval Gaelic wire harp (clàrsach) and the Scottish lever harp.  Ruth’s passion for the highly ornamented Scottish pibroch piping technique informs her playing style and inspires the sound world of this fascinating and unique concert.

SUMMARY:The Green Knight but Gay
DESCRIPTION:Join award winning and critically acclaimed storyteller Niall Moorjani for their fantastical\, queer and hilarious take on the medieval classic The Green Knight. It’s a version in which they make sub text-text! We’ll give you a clue\, it’s gay. \n \nFollow the story of Sir Gawain and his adventures\, all started by the peer-pressured\, unfortunate and unsuccessful chopping off of The Green Knight’s head. Now Gawain is going to get his head chopped off in return by the miraculously still alive green knight. Disaster. King Arthur reckons this will be grand as Gawain needs to do more manly things anyway and there is nothing more manly than taking a good head chop off. The Green Knight But It’s Gay brings this Arthurian classic excellently brought into the modern world with deep love for the original text.

Poor Yorick”.\n\nMixing the mundane with the magical; moments of banal idiocy are interspersed with ones of cinematic elegance to an underscore of groans\, grunts and the odd Shakespearean aside. The legendary independent theatre double act of Jon Haynes and John Gorick pull out every trick in their theatrical playbook to create a fresh take on Shakespeare’s much-loved clowns\, re-enacting all the preceding acts of the original and meticulously staging the famous graveyard scene in all its 420 year-old glory.
