SUMMARY:Pearl o' Wisdom
DESCRIPTION:In a farmhouse on the Lizard\, teenager Rose cares for an old lady called Pearl. But it’s not just Pearl’s humour that is breaking boundaries; turns out this old lady can break through boundaries into other worlds too! Suddenly\, mischievous sprites are urging the old lady to share her story and bewildered Rose is taken on a time-travel adventure back to Cornwall in the 1930s and ‘40s\, through Pearl’s childhood and adolescence. \nBut Pearl harbours a painful secret. And Rose is trying to decipher the messages of the sprites. \nWhat happened at the standing stone? Who is the boy caught in the betwixt and the between? And why is Rose\, of all people\, on this journey? \nTamara Rosenwyn’s play reveals that the power of our imagination is timeless\, and that with inner grit\, time and a deep dig into the soul\, pearls of wisdom can be formed! \nPerfect for age 11+ \nAbout the playwright: Tamara Rosenwyn is a Cornish playwright from The Lizard\, known for her magical-realism plays which explore modern cultural issues interwoven with Cornwall’s heritage and folklore.

SUMMARY:Whirligig of Time
DESCRIPTION:“Richard Curnow weaves a confident spell\, drawing the sell-out audience into their lives with a skilful luxuriation in the narrative. Malvolio’s determination to be ‘revenged on the whole pack’ that made his life a misery is a classy vignette which delivers humour\, pathos and a wealth of the linguistic winks.” Richard is back at the chapel with another of his much-loved takes on a Shakespearian character; this time Malvolio from Twelfth Night. Three months after Malvolio vowed to be revenged on the whole pack of them\, he relates\, with a great deal of satisfaction\, how he has kept his word. Malvolio knows\, better than most how he who laughs last\, laughs longest. To Hell with Anger Management! In February 2021 Whirligig of Time received an OnComm Nomination for a Live Screening award: \n“A Dish Best Served Cold. Richard’s clever and witty script…

SUMMARY:FITKINWALL
DESCRIPTION:Helston Old Chapel\n\n7.30pm 17th July 2025\n\nRuth Wall & Graham Fitkin\n\n“A haunting blend of Gaelic melodies and timeless electronica soundscapes that get right inside your head\, and your heart.”~ Mark Kermode on FitkinWall UIST/Harpland show
Internationally renowned harp and electronica duo FitkinWall follow threads of migration\, loss and longing in their new show. Ruth Wall’s explorations into Gaelic song\, fiddle and pipe tunes and the history of the Scottish Highlands where she grew up have a particular focus on migration and the Highland Clearances. Graham Fitkin has created enigmatic and mesmerising new versions of these tunes for Ruth’s three harps – the sitar-like Renaissance bray harp\, the beautiful medieval Gaelic wire harp (clàrsach) and the Scottish lever harp.  Ruth’s passion for the highly ornamented Scottish pibroch piping technique informs her playing style and inspires the sound world of this fascinating and unique concert.

SUMMARY:The Green Knight but Gay
DESCRIPTION:Join award winning and critically acclaimed storyteller Niall Moorjani for their fantastical\, queer and hilarious take on the medieval classic The Green Knight. It’s a version in which they make sub text-text! We’ll give you a clue\, it’s gay. \n \nFollow the story of Sir Gawain and his adventures\, all started by the peer-pressured\, unfortunate and unsuccessful chopping off of The Green Knight’s head. Now Gawain is going to get his head chopped off in return by the miraculously still alive green knight. Disaster. King Arthur reckons this will be grand as Gawain needs to do more manly things anyway and there is nothing more manly than taking a good head chop off. The Green Knight But It’s Gay brings this Arthurian classic excellently brought into the modern world with deep love for the original text.

SUMMARY:Alas! Poor Yorick
DESCRIPTION:Helston Old Chapel\n\n7.30pm 27th April 2025\n\nby Ridiculusmus\n\nIf the Two Ronnies were cast as the Gravediggers in Shakespeare’s Hamlet re-written by Samuel Beckett you might have something like Ridiculusmus’s “Alas! Poor Yorick”.\n\nMixing the mundane with the magical; moments of banal idiocy are interspersed with ones of cinematic elegance to an underscore of groans\, grunts and the odd Shakespearean aside. The legendary independent theatre double act of Jon Haynes and John Gorick pull out every trick in their theatrical playbook to create a fresh take on Shakespeare’s much-loved clowns\, re-enacting all the preceding acts of the original and meticulously staging the famous graveyard scene in all its 420 year-old glory.

SUMMARY:UNTOLD: Helston's Unexpected Stories
DESCRIPTION:“UNTOLD: Helston’s Unexpected Stories” will reimagine how we tell the story of historic Helston. Through respectful research conducted by the team at the Museum of Cornish Life\, we are discovering unexpected\, surprising and remarkable stories from those at rest in the historic section of Helston Cemetery. \n \nIn a unique approach to storytelling\, we’ll select one extraordinary life and present it as two interconnected live performances. The first act\, staged on 26th February at the museum\, will share with the audience our Helstonian’s childhood and early life. The second act\, performed on 27th February at Helston Old Chapel\, will tell the story of their later life and death. \nProfessional theatre-makers will collaborate to create an intimate and engaging live event of this discovered life from long ago. \n \nThis innovative project marks the beginning of a wider initiative to share more unexpected stories within our community’s heritage\, creating surprising connections between past and present Helstonians.
