An Evening with Joanne Miller

Joanna Miller’s debut novel The Eights follows four Oxford undergraduates admitted as part of the first cohort of women permitted to study for, and receive, degrees in 1920.  Beatrice, Dora, Marianne and Otto are in rooms on Corridor Eight in St Hughs.  These four very different women form a firm friendship as they learn to navigate the tricky landscape of life post-WW1 – pressure to return to ‘traditional’ roles, facing opposition to being allowed to study and fighting for the right to vote.
