CAST are delighted to welcome Alice Butler, co-founder of the prominent Dublin-based initiative for artists’ moving image aemi, and artists Niall Cullen, Dan Guthrie and Amanda Rice, to screen a collection of short films and speak about their work.
The Spirit Messages programme draws from an eclectic array of sources to reveal an interconnected paranormal world. Amanda Rice’s film The Flesh of Language sets out to examine our impact on the Earth’s ecosystems through capitalist processes of extraction and overproduction. Niall Cullen’s The Dog Who Became a Frog explores the idea that every living thing shares the same energy force. And Dan Guthrie’s Coaley Peak (A Fragment) uses a family photo taken at a Gloucestershire viewpoint as a starting point for a work focused on Blackness and belonging in the English countryside.
Spirit Messages also features works by Ross McClean, Jamie Crewe and Luis Arnias. Full descriptions and trailer can be found on CAST’s website. The screening will run for an hour and will be accompanied by a Q&A with Alice Butler and the artists.
